A Slave to Whom | Morning Routine Daily Devotional for February 24

Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey,…

Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness? — Romans 6:16 NKJV

For this morning’s devotion, I want to emphasize the very real and serious truth that whomever we serve is our master and lord.  A.W. Tozer once wrote, “the will is the seat of true religion in the soul.” The surrendering of our will either to sin, or obedience to Christ reveals the true condition of our heart.

Repenting and surrendering to Christ is not simply the act that started our relationship with Christ; it is also the ongoing act of yielding our will to His Lordship. Because you’re alive, you will most certainly have the opportunity today to submit to sin and be a slave to actions that serve your self-will. Or those same moments will provide the opportunity to submit in obedience to Christ for God’s glory. And the good news is that His presence is sufficient to keep us from sin. This is an ongoing and life-long opportunity to show whom you choose to serve. You are either a slave to sin or a slave to God—you get to choose.
