When [Jesus] had entered Capernaum, a centurion came forward to him, appealing to him, “Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, suffering terribly.” And he said to him, “I will come and heal him.” But the centurion replied, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant will be healed. For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” When Jesus heard this, he marveled and said to those who followed him, “Truly, I tell you, with no one in Israel have I found such faith… And to the centurion Jesus said, “Go; let it be done for you as you have believed.” And the servant was healed at that very moment. — Matthew 8:5-10, 13 ESV

What things have you experienced or seen in your life that have caused you to marvel or wonder?

Perhaps you have been to the Peruvian mountain top and looked into Machu Pichu or traveled to India and gazed at the Taj Mahal, or stood in awe in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower. Or maybe you have gone to Argentina and marveled at the (Ig-wa-zoo Falls) Iguazu Falls, vacationed in Arizona, hiked the Grand Canyon, stood on Hoover Dam, or traversed the Panama Canal, or contemplated the Pyramids or watched the Aurora (Bore EE Al us) Borealis.

The Wonders of the World lists include the ancient wonders, the modern wonders, the industrial wonders, and the natural wonders—all of them worthy of contemplation and awe and wonder.

What was it that caused Jesus to wonder or to marvel? What would cause the Creator and Sustainer of the universe to take pause? What magnificent structure, natural occurrence, or special event would cause Him, whose name is Wonderful, to marvel? It was faith! The faith of a gentile soldier who believed in Jesus caused our Lord to marvel. And it is faith in Jesus (my faith in Him and your faith in Him) that opens the doors to a marvelous and wonderful eternal life with Him.

May God use you mightily today!
