“Who is like you, O Lord, among the gods? Who is like you, majestic in holiness, awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders? You stretched out your right hand; the earth swallowed them. – Exodus 15:11-12 ESV

Exodus records Israel’s departure from Egypt and their 40-year trek to Canaan, the land promised to Abram and his descendants in Genesis 15. The Lord released them from their enslavement to Egypt by His mighty hand, delivering plagues to Pharoah since he refused to release them. Pharoah reluctantly set them free after the tenth and final plague, sending them into the wilderness. Shortly thereafter, Pharoah regretted releasing Israel, his slave labor. So, he took his army and chariots to go after them. As they ran, Israel approached the Red Sea. They couldn’t continue because of the water, but the sea parted after Moses prayed to the Lord, allowing Israel to flee the Egyptians on dry land. After making it to the other side, the Lord closed the waters just as He opened them, and the Egyptian army was washed away.

Our passage today records Moses’ song of praise after the Lord delivered the Israelites from the Egyptians. He proclaims that the Lord is unlike all other gods; there is none like Him, majestic in holiness. His deeds are glorious and wonderous. And, as He stretched out His hand, the earth swallowed up His enemies. The Lord is mighty, and He does mighty deeds.

In Exodus 15, the Lord performed an incredible, supernatural miracle. And He performs miracles in our lives, too. Have you thought about that recently? Moses is making absolute statements about the Lord—He is like none other; He is majestic in holiness; He does glorious deeds. These claims weren’t only true for the Israelites; they’re true today. Consider the good that the Lord has done in your family, career, and church. Consider the graces He has bestowed on you throughout the past few years. Today, praise the Lord for the good He has done.
