Parents horrified to learn that public schools around the country have supported gender transitions of students behind parents’ backs will welcome new legislation that seeks to prevent such deception.
The bill, introduced by U.S. Rep. Jim Banks, R-Indiana, would force federally funded schools to obtain parental consent before facilitating a child’s gender transition.
“Federally funded schools are not laboratories for the Left’s radical agenda,” Banks told The Daily Wire. “Our schools are a place for math and history education, not gender theory indoctrination. No parent should have to worry that their child’s school is enabling, promoting, or facilitating a child’s ‘gender transition’ behind their back.”
Other legislative action focusing on parents’ rights to be informed about their children’s education has come at the federal level, as well as in states across the country.
Banks’ new bill, which reflects one introduced last October in the U.S. Senate by Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Arkansas, warns that school districts across the nation are “violating parental and familial rights by encouraging or instructing staff to deceive or withhold information from parents if their child expresses confusion about their gender and is seeking to ‘transition’.”
The legislation also points out that gender transition practices that activists are pushing are “experimental” and “not an evidence-based practice.”
“Contrary to the unfounded assertions of activists, ‘socially transitioning’ a child is not an evidence-based practice and it is not a neutral or uncontroversial decision,” the bill reads. “This practice is an experimental social and psychological intervention that has immediate effects on a child’s psychology and a high likelihood of changing the life path of a child.
“A ‘social gender transition’ may make it more difficult for a child to reverse course later on, thereby increasing the likelihood that the child will continue on to a ‘medical transition,’ resulting in life-changing, irreversible consequences.”
“Schools should never be allowed to impose radical, harmful gender ideology on children,” Cotton said of his colleague’s bill, “especially without parents’ knowledge and consent.”
