Teachers’ union passes woke resolutions, re-elects leftist leaders at national convention

In the name of “reclaiming the future,” the nation’s second-largest teachers’ union passed several resolutions supporting woke policies and re-elected its leftist leaders at its recent convention. 

The American Federation of Teachers (AFT) wrapped up its 87th biennial convention on Sunday, hosting over 3,000 delegates from across the country. Speakers at the four-day event included first lady Jill Biden, Sen. Elizabeth Warren and other democratic supporters. 

Randi Weingarten was re-elected to her eighth two-year term as president. Secretary-Treasurer Fredrick Ingram and Executive Vice President Evelyn DeJesus were re-elected to their second terms. 

AFT delegates also debated and passed resolutions during the gathering, many of which supported leftist policy issues. 

One resolution reflected the organization’s distaste for private schools, as it opposed taxpayer-funded, so-called “discriminatory” school voucher programs that give families more educational freedom. 

Another resolution condemned attempts to protect women’s sports by preventing biological males who identify as female from competing as women. “Let them play!” the resolution declared. 

The union also passed resolutions supporting increased wages for its members and supported Starbucks workers attempting to unionize. 

The convention follows a tumultuous two years in which the Democrat-led teachers’ unions supported policies that resulted in vast learning loss among children while also alienating parents.  

In fact, AFT’s own poll recently found that slightly more respondents in mid-term battleground states trusted Republicans (39%) with education than Democrats (38%). 

The poll also found that respondents thought education was becoming too politicized, which critics have pointed out is precisely what the teachers’ unions are doing.  

“This polling is such an epic self-own for Randi Weingarten,” Corey DeAngelis, senior fellow at the American Federation for Children, told Fox News Digital. “The results of Randi Weingarten’s own polling destroy her own narrative. 

“The results of the union-commissioned poll show that likely voters in battleground states have more confidence in Republicans than Democrats on education. The results of the union poll also show that likely voters have much more confidence in teachers and parent organizations than teachers unions. Not a good look for union bosses like Randi Weingarten.”
