High school teacher in North Carolina facing 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor for alleged distribution of child pornography

A high school teacher in North Carolina was suspended and is facing 10 felony counts after he willfully received and distributed child pornography, according to his arrest warrant.

Eric Kyle Belk was arrested Nov. 8, the culmination of a months-long investigation involving the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, according to an ABC11 report.

Authorities acted on a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which claimed an individual had both downloaded and distributed such content using social media.

The warrant for Belk’s arrest identified the Wake County School System as his employer. Belk was a teacher at Sanderson High School in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Sanderson High School interim principal Kevin Hill sent a letter to parents the day after Belk’s arrest.

“Eric Belk, a teacher at our school, was arrested last night and charged with second degree sexual exploitation of a minor,” the statement read. “We have been informed by law enforcement that the incident under investigation does not appear to involve any of our students and it did not occur at our school.

“While privacy laws prevent me from providing much information about the situation, I can share that the teacher has been suspended. I will share more information regarding the situation as soon as I am able.”

The 10 charges Belk faces are each punishable by over seven years in prison. Belk is currently held on a $500,000 bail bond.

Belk’s first court date was on Nov. 9. His next appearance will be on Nov. 30.
