House committee finds ‘no legitimate basis’ for FBI to investigate protesting parents

A House subcommittee report revealed the Biden administration inappropriately used “federal law-enforcement and counterterrorism resources” on parents who protested controversial local school policies.

The report was issued as part of the House Judiciary Committee’s investigation into the weaponization of the federal government to silence political opponents.

The investigation concluded that the Biden administration colluded with the National Association of School Boards (NASB) to open federal investigations into parents who were protesting progressive school policies, calling such parents “domestic terrorists.”

In fact, the FBI admitted to starting 25 investigations, six of which were run by its counterterrorism division.

“According to the FBI, none of the school board-related investigations have resulted in federal arrests or charges, highlighting the political motives behind the Attorney General’s actions,” said the report.

Emails revealed by Fox News show Biden’s education secretary, Miguel Cardona, solicited a letter from the NASB that was the basis for a separate, slanderous memo from Attorney General Merrick Garland labeling parents as “domestic terrorists.”

One parent was even identified as a “threat” by the FBI simply because she is a gun owner and belongs to a conservative moms group, “Moms for Liberty.”

Republican lawmakers criticized Garland’s outlandish language.

“Parents and other citizens who get impassioned at school-board meetings are not domestic terrorists,” the GOP Senators wrote Garland. “You may believe that, but too many people involved in this issue seem to think harsh words can be criminalized. Getting the FBI’s Counterterrorism Division involved in the matter only makes this worse—dramatically worse.”

But Garland refused to withdraw the memo and the Biden administration hasn’t cooperated with the House investigation, declining to answer a subpoena for information, according to the report.

Consequently, U.S. Attorneys’ offices reported back to the Justice Department that there was no basis for investigating the parents.

“One U.S. Attorney reported that ‘this issue was very poorly received’ by his local law enforcement community and ‘described by some as a manufactured issue,’” the report reads. “He continued: ‘No one I spoke with in law enforcement seemed to think that there is a serious national threat directed at school boards, which gave the impression that our priorities are misapplied.’”

Its conclusion was the same as the House committee’s, which again called on Garland to withdraw the memo and stop targeting parents.

“From the documents and information received pursuant to the subpoena, it is crystal clear that Attorney General Garland should rescind his unwise and unsupported directive to insert federal law enforcement into local school board matters,” the report concluded.
