Five biological men played on opposing teams at a women’s college volleyball game in Canada, leading to concerns of fairness and safety.

The Jan. 24 game featured three biological men playing for the Seneca Sting and two for the Centennial Colts, leaving female athletes who may otherwise be playing on the bench.

Rebel News, a conservative Canadian media website, reported on the event after an anonymous source cited concerns for the female athletes’ safety.

“Recently, there have been two major head injuries to female volleyball athletes in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) caused by transgender men,” the source told Rebel News. “The first injury, on November 12, 2023, was a concussion caused by C.L. Viloria who plays the middle position for Centennial College.

“During the game at Centennial College vs. La Cite Collegiate, Viloria attacked the ball with heavy force and hit a La Cite volleyball player in the head.”

The source claimed the second concussion occurred on Jan. 22, when Franz Largadas, a biological male player from Seneca College, hit a La Cite player in the head.

During the previous school year, Largadas played on the men’s volleyball team.

“In both instances the players had to be substituted off the court,” the source told Rebel News. “Although injuries do occur in the sport, the sheer force of a man’s volleyball attack is much more powerful than one of a biological women’s force.”

The volleyball game ended with Seneca winning 3 to 1.

Rebel News reports being kicked out with threats of trespassing charges.

Before leaving the game, news anchor David Menzies asked Centennial coach Andrew Mallory why he was using “male players.”

“I’m not,” Mallory replied, apparently referring to the gender identity of the male players.

“Currently there are six transgender men in the OCAA,” the source told Rebel News, “five of which are not on any gender-affirming hormone therapy or have not had surgical gonad removal. There is no current policy in the OCAA that is listed publicly on their website about eligibility of transgender women.”

However, according to the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association, “student-athletes may compete on the sport team that corresponds with either their sex assigned at birth or their gender identity, provided that at all times student-athletes are in compliance with the Canadian Anti-Doping Program.”

Last year in North Carolina, Payton McNabb, a female, was spiked in the head by a biological male during a high school girls volleyball game, causing impaired vision, partial paralysis on her right side and constant headaches, according to ABC13 News.

Following the incident and McNabb’s testimony, North Carolina passed the Fairness in Women’s Sports Act, prohibiting individuals from competing on sports teams that do not match their birth sex.
