President Donald Trump celebrated the “explosion of economic growth” under his administration during a speech Tuesday afternoon in Iowa.
“This has been the most dramatic one-year turnaround of any country in history in terms of speed. I really thought it would take us two or three years to do what we’re doing,” Trump told a crowd in Clive, Iowa. “You know, the greatest, the number one country anywhere in history, in the world, anywhere in history for investment coming into the country, and it’s amazing. And it’s because of tariffs.”
The visit to Iowa is the beginning of a White House plan to visit one state each week until the mid-term elections later this year, according to CBS News.
“I’m going around because hopefully we win the midterms,” Trump told guests at a restaurant in Iowa Tuesday, according to video from C-SPAN.
Trump visited Machine Shed, a local diner in Urbandale, where he greeted guests from table to table and servers celebrated his “no tax on tips” policy. One guest asked Trump if he could pray over him, and Trump responded, “Absolutely.”
Trump also said he is defending American farmers who are America’s people.
“After years of the United States getting ripped off by other countries on trade, I’m standing up for the workers and the farmers of our country like no other president
has ever on this,” he said.
He credited Iowa for his major victory in the 2024 presidential election, when he won in a “30-point landslide.”
“I’m thrilled to be back in the great state of Iowa with so many proud, hardworking American patriots, which is what you are. It’s an amazing state, what a place,” Trump said.
