A Land That I Will Show You | Morning Routine Daily Devotional for February 28

Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. And Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran. — Genesis 12:1-4 ESV
Notice in this significant passage God’s initial promise to Abram. Abram’s name has not yet changed to Abraham. The Lord is addressing a 75-year-old man.
And God’s promise to Abram required an act of faith from Abram.
God promised Abram before he acted in faith. God was there first! Theologically, we call that prevenient grace: “the grace of God that goes before us, while we are sinners. It is God seeking us!”
So, the story goes forward like this: God is seeking Abram (before Abram is seeking God). God makes a promise to Abram regarding his future and the future of his decedents. But God’s promise had to be acted upon. It was a significant act of faith. It involved Abram leaving everything he knew and going to a location he didn’t know.
Abram’s faith relied on God’s continued presence.
Our lives today are much the same. And may I suggest, whatever it is that God is calling you to, He intends to guide you through it! So, take courage today; God was seeking you before you were seeking Him!
