Ascribe to the Lord Glory | Morning Routine for December 12

Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness. — Psalm 29:1-2 (ESV)

In Psalm 29 readers are encouraged to ascribe glory to the Lord. That’s a great exhortation, but it begs the question, “What does ascribe mean? To ascribe something to someone is to acknowledge that they have a particular attribute. So, when David tells his readers to ascribe to the Lord glory and strength, he’s telling them to acknowledge that the Lord is glorious, and His strength is great. David says, “Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name, worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness.” The Lord is fully holy. He not only commits holy acts, but He is holy, fully and entirely. There is no part of God that does not embody holiness and He ought to be worshiped for who He is. 

As you look at the condition of the world, the values of people, and even the hurts in your own life, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Allow His very presence to bring peace to your life and be the foundation of your wellbeing. Just resting in the truths of who our God is can change our perspective. Today, as you bring instruction to others, encourage them to ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. May they learn the real contentment that comes through the presence of God.
