After pulling an all-nighter, the U.S. House of Representatives approved the massive budget bill, known as President Donald Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill,” sending it to the president a day before his stated July 4 deadline.

All but two of the 220 Republicans voted in favor of the bill, H.R. 1, and all 212 Democrats against. Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania were the two Republicans to vote no.

The bill has been championed by the president and its supporters for its tax cuts, funding for immigration enforcement and targeting of waste, fraud and abuse, including by requiring able-bodied Medicaid recipients to work, which irked Democrats.

After a record-setting speech of nearly nine hours from House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-New York, Speaker Mike Johnson, R-Louisiana, took the podium and thanked a number of lawmakers and Vice President JD Vance for working hard to get to the point of a final vote before finally thanking President Trump, who then received a standing ovation from Republicans.

“This bill is for hardworking Americans, and they deserve it,” said Johnson.

Throughout much of Wednesday and into the night, the fate of the bill was unclear as a number of Republican holdouts were being persuaded by Johnson, Vance and Trump. Republicans wary of government spending were eventually convinced, however.

The Senate passed the bill along partisan lines 51-50 on Tuesday, with Vance casting a tie-breaking vote.

Trump reportedly plans to sign the bill Friday morning.
