President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that “the framework of a future deal” for Greenland and “the entire Arctic region” had been reached following a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
Trump has been on a campaign to acquire the massive island, which is controlled by Denmark, for security and mining purposes, even releasing private conversations between him and Rutte and other European leaders about it.
Hours after addressing the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, the president posted on Truth Social that he was relenting on planned tariffs on Denmark and other European nations that would have taken effect Feb. 1.
Trump said more details about the framework would emerge and that Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, special envoy Steve Witkoff and others would handle the negotiations.
This is a breaking story and may be updated.
