A mom is alleging that her special needs daughter was taught about lesbian sex at school, despite the fact that she opted out of lessons relating to the material.
Marina Vivar told the Glendale City Council that her decision for her daughter to opt out of lessons regarding LGBT relationships was not respected by school staff, Fox News reports.
When her daughter, Thelma Gonzalez, objected to the lessons, noting that she was opted out of the class, she said the teachers called her a “bigot, intolerant and homophobic.”
“My teachers were going to send me to the principal office when I told them that it was against my beliefs and that I felt uncomfortable,” Gonzalez told the city council about a graphic lesson she was subjected to.
She also alleges that her English teacher was angry with her when she called another student, named “Kenny,” by the wrong pronoun.
“I’m not—It’s not in my religion to know what are people and what … they identify or do not identify,” Gonzalez told the council, clearly struggling with embarrassment over the incidents.
Added to the embarrassment for Gonzalez are the legal threats that students face because of the Draconian California pronoun laws.
“If a member of the school community intentionally uses a student’s incorrect name and pronoun, or persistently refuses to respect a student’s chosen name and pronouns, that conduct should be treated as harassment,” reads the California Department of Education website.
“Harassment” under California law can carry with it both civil and criminal penalties and substantial fines and monetary awards.
Gonzalez also alleges that she got in trouble for not undressing in front of male teachers who were in the girls locker room.
“I was scared, I was terrified,” Gonzalez told the council. “I was afraid of them just staring at me. A male, an adult male, staring at me while I’m changing.”
The school denies the allegations made by Vivar.
“The lesson Ms. Vivar is referencing was a general lesson from the health textbook about making healthy decisions in your relationships. The teacher did ask Ms. Vivar’s daughter to refrain from making inappropriate remarks in response to a reference to LGBTQ+ relationships,” Glendale High Communications Director Kristine Nam told Fox News Digital.
But Nam denied that the teacher called Gonzalez a bigot or made any other inappropriate remarks.
The Glendale Unified School District (GUSD) has been rocked over the last year by its LGBT policies and curriculum.
A year ago, a 3rd grade teacher was transferred from her duties after news surfaced that she showed her students gay pride videos.
The controversy at GUSD is part of a larger movement nationwide which is protesting the sexualization of children in schools.
“It’s outrageous to know that teachers are teaching 8-year-olds about sex, sexual orientations, homosexuality and bragging about seeing nudity in movies,” said GUSD parent Cheryl Smidt. “We teach that our children are to be pure, they are not to be fornicators and they are going to save themselves for marriage.
“These are innocent children and we need to preserve their innocence.”
