A California high school teacher was arrested Monday after recording devices he allegedly hid in an “all-gender” restroom were discovered.

Siu Kong Sit, a 37-year-old math teacher at Beckman High School in Irvine, was charged with possession of child pornography, burglary and two other misdemeanors, Fox News reports.

Local police were called to the school on Monday when a maintenance worker found the hidden recording devices and alerted school administrators. According to the reports, officers believe the devices recorded several victims.

When investigators determined the devices were placed there by Sit, he was taken into custody and booked in the Orange County Jail.

More charges could be forthcoming as investigators continue to identify and contact all the victims in the case.

As of Tuesday, Sit was reportedly still in custody, with his bail set at $20,000. The school district has not responded to comments requests from local media as of Friday.

Multiple cases of California teachers secretly filming or photographing students in the bathroom have come to light in recent months.

As previously reported by The Lion, in November, a former California high school coach was sentenced to over nine years in prison after admitting to secretly photographing 21 students in the girls’ locker room.

Former assistant football coach at Los Osos High School, David Arthur Riden, pleaded guilty in October to possessing over 600 images of child sexual assault material, using a minor to produce child sexual assault material, and secretly photographing a minor.

Riden received nine years and four months at his sentencing and is required to register as a sex offender for life.

In the last two years, similar cases have occurred across the nation, including states like North Carolina, Wisconsin, New York and Pennsylvania, part of a troubling trend of sexual exploitation of students.
