A Cartoon Network series creator has been charged with one count of possession of child pornography in relation to over 600 images allegedly found as part of a crimes against children investigation.
Kyle Carrozza, 45, was arrested at his home in Burbank, California, on June 20 at 7:30 am by the Burbank Police after he was served with a search warrant, reported USAToday.
He was originally booked for two counts related to the arrest, but the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed just one count after reviewing the evidence.
Although the arrest happened over a month ago, it wasn’t until the booking reports by the Burbank Police recently hit social media that the arrest was publicized – though the booking report is said to be no longer available at the department.
An image of the reports captured by sportsgeeda.com shows Carrozza was booked under California penal code 311.11 (c) (1), which involves over 600 images of a “prepubescent minor” or a child under 12; or images that depict “sexual sadism or sexual masochism” for a person under 18.
The penalty can range from one year in a county jail to three years in state prison and a fine of up to $2,500, according to the code.
Carrozza is creator of the app short video series Mighty Magiswords and has worked as an animator and voice actor for Cartoon Network, reports Cartoon Brew. He has also worked for Apple TV, Disney, Nickelodeon and on well-known franchises such as The Snoopy Show and Spongebob Squarepants, the website says.
Carrozza is a minor figure in animation, but is ironically well known in animation circles for his stand against what’s known as “lolicon,” a type of art that depicts the hypersexualization of young girls in anime. It’s a form of drawing that originated in Japan but has migrated around the world.
In a dispute over the issue, he castigated and publicly outed an animator for creating lolicon art, which turned the art world and the LGBTQ community against him.
“Kyle Carrozza led a moral witch hunt against an animator because they drew loIi in an alt account, to the point of getting them fired and blacklisted. 4 years later, Kyle got arrested for [child porn],” a critic of anime and video games posted on X social media.
Cartoon Network reportedly has taken down behind-the-scenes content featuring Carrozza while leaving the Mighty Magiswords series up for now.
Carrozza graduated from Catskill High School and the Art Institute of Philadelphia, where he received an associate’s degree in Traditional Animation, according to his LinkedIn profile.
The Lion’s requests for comment sent to Carrozza‘s Nickelodeon email address were returned as undeliverable, and a phone call and text to his cell phone went unanswered.
