The City of Norfolk Public School Board is planning on adopting a sex ed curriculum developed by top U.S. abortion provider Planned Parenthood, material parents and critics say is too explicit and age-inappropriate.
The sex ed publisher is a spinoff of Planned Parenthood called Education, Training, and Research.
ETR inaccurately claims the sex ed classes called âGet Realâ are published online as a way to keep parents involved as the primary director of the sexual education of their children, while it works to delay the onset of sexual activity by kids.
But the Claremont Institute, in a report aimed at the sex ed industry, says that ETRâs curriculum provides age-inappropriate, often step-by-step instructions for children in how to engage in sex, starting in the 6th grade:
âBeginning in the sixth grade, it instructs students in oral, anal, and vaginal sex, masturbation, gender identity, sexual orientation, and transgender ideology, among other things. Get Real directs children to read pornographic books such as Itâs Perfectly Normal, which includes realistic illustrations of sexual acts.â
Claremont also says ETR publishes Planned Parenthood-created materials almost exclusively.
The think tank further estimates Planned Parenthood has received $1.68 billion from the federal government for sex education programs in schools since 2010, much more than all other competing publishers.
âPlanned Parenthood and its allies won 80 percent of all sex education grant money between 2020 and 2023,â reports Claremont. Â
Norfolk, Virginia parents are understandably concerned.
“Children at this age are in their shy development stage, and when you encourage them out of this normal development, and you force them into the next level, before they are mentally prepared, you’ve disrupted the normal growth of a child,” said Sylvia Bryant, a Virginia parent, in an interview with Fox News Digital.
One parents’ rights group also blasted ETR for its political bias.
“Planned Parenthood is an overtly political organization that managed to get its own curriculum added to the Department of Health and Human Services’ list of âevidence-based programsâ in 2015,” said Erika Sanzi, director of outreach for Parents Defending Education in a statement.
Indeed, ETRâs website is full of the social justice buzzwords that progressives use today to indoctrinate children.
ETR claims that its curriculum is part of its fight for âhealth equity,â while it works towards âdiversity and inclusion,â using âsocial and emotional skills.â
The reality, however, is much more disturbing, said Claremont.
By using ETR, âIn a word, we are funding porn in our libraries, the âtransingâ of kids, sophisticated grooming, and gay clubs on campus,â concludes the California-based think tank.
