Planned Parenthood of Delaware (PPDE) has released a new abortion-promoting resource, this time targeting deaf middle and high school students.
The resource consists of four videos that teach Planned Parenthood’s liberal perspective on sex education through American Sign Language, covering topics ranging from birth control to gender identity.
“So the videos just launched last month, and now it’s summer, so in the fall, hopefully this will really take off,” said Quinn Vermillion, disabilities program coordinator at PPDE.
Reaching the roughly 193 deaf schools across the United States before the school year starts is a top priority for Planned Parenthood, says Vermillion. Approximately 280,000 deaf young people between the ages of 16 and 24 are living in the U.S., according to a National Deaf Center report.
Planned Parenthood claims to be the largest sex education provider in the nation, reaching over 1 million individuals annually. Critics, however, don’t believe the abortion corporation should be teaching sex education to vulnerable minors.
In her analysis of Planned Parenthood’s position in sex education, Kali Fontanilla, a senior fellow at Capital Research Center, details the progressive, radical teachings that appear throughout the group’s resources.
For example, they denigrate abstinence by calling the concept of virginity “complete nonsense” and “a term created simply to control and shame people.” Students are also taught about “they/them” pronouns and encouraged to confide personal traumas with their teachers rather than trained guidance counselors or parents.
“Planned Parenthood is pushing an agenda to have the most radical members of the already left-leaning teaching profession be our nation’s students’ gender, sexuality, and sexual trauma counselors when that is not their role,” writes Fontanilla.
Notably, Planned Parenthood’s sex education campaigns are largely financed using taxpayer dollars. A study from the Claremont Institute found the abortion provider and its allies received 80% of all government sex education grant money between 2020 and 2023.
The study revealed Planned Parenthood had either written or endorsed 17 of the 24 sex education curricula approved by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for use in public schools.
