A North Carolina elementary teacher is facing multiple charges for sexually assaulting a former student.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office began investigating Sara Kathleen Majors in October, when the alleged victim came forward.

After a four-month investigation into the former elementary school teacher, detectives with the Special Investigations Unit arrested her on Feb. 22.

Majors is charged with eight counts of sex acts with a student, 16 counts of indecent liberties with a minor and 16 counts of statutory rape of a child 15 years or younger.

The investigation revealed Majors met the victim while teaching 3rd and 5th grade at Hurley Elementary School. The assaults allegedly occurred from 2019-22, when the victim was no longer Majors’ student.

After leaving Hurley Elementary, Majors went on to teach at the North Carolina Cyber Academy and Shade Tree Academy.

Shade Tree Academy is a nonprofit designed for children “who have experienced significant trauma related to loss of primary attachment figures and adverse childhood experiences,” specifically foster kids.

Majors is being held on a $900,000 secured bond; her next court appearance is scheduled for March 13.
