While some universities are scaling back controversial “diversity” programs, Harvard’s Division of Continuing Education is offering an Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging Leadership Graduate Certificate – but it will cost students almost $14,000 to complete.

The program has four required sections: history, core, leadership and applied learning. Courses come from the university’s history, psychology, government, management and African and African American studies departments, Campus Reform reports

The certificate is meant to help professionals develop skills for promoting “inclusive corporate culture,” according to Harvard’s website

“You will gain critical knowledge and skills to address bias and marginalization and to foster an inclusive corporate culture,” the program description says.

Each course costs $3,440. Students must complete four courses to earn the certificate, making the total cost $13,760.

The Division of Continuing Education describes itself as a branch of the university “bringing rigorous programs and innovative online teaching capabilities to distance learners.” It offers online and hybrid options for working adults seeking career advancement or other credentials.

The history section includes “AAAS 122: Understanding Race and Racism” and “HIST 1680: Riots, Strikes and Conspiracies in American History.”

The core and leadership sections include “PSYC 1871: Power and Privilege in Systems,” which focuses on how power operates in social systems and how people can identify those structures.

The applied learning section includes “MGMT 4400: Diversity and Inclusion Management” and “MGMT 4422: Institutions and Equitable Transformation.” These courses are intended to help students implement inclusion strategies in workplace settings, according to the program website.

The university says the certificate can help graduates expand their roles or transition into new careers focused on diversity and inclusion.

The program “may help you expand your current role to include EDIB initiatives or allow you to change your career with a move into an EDIB-specific role,” the website says.

The certificate is one of several diversity-related credentials offered at major universities. Similar programs exist at the University of Minnesota and American University, Campus Reform said.

DEI programs have been targeted by the Trump administration as unfair and racially discriminatory, as reported by The Lion.
