House of David star Michael Iskander used his acceptance speech at the K-LOVE Fan Awards to deliver a simple message: David’s story is ultimately about Jesus.

House of David won the TV/Streaming Impact Award, topping such popular shows as The Chosen Adventures, Testament and The Promised Land in the fan-voted event that was broadcast on TBN. The series is currently in its second season and is available to stream on Prime Video and Wonder Project.

“I hope that as you watch House of David, that you’re reminded of Jesus always. David points us to Jesus. Everything is about Jesus,” Iskander said as he accepted the award.

The “same Holy Spirit that was upon him when he was anointed,” he said of David, “is the same Holy Spirit that lives within us.”

Iskander was a relatively unknown actor before the role of David thrust him into the spotlight. House of David climbed to No. 1 on Prime Video’s overall rankings during its first season, briefly becoming the platform’s most-watched title among both movies and television series – and proving that the success of The Chosen was not a one-time phenomenon for a Bible project.

House of David and The Chosen have found success at a time when Bible sales are rising in the United States and around the world. Team members from both projects say they regularly hear from viewers who have been inspired to read Scripture more frequently after watching the shows.

“That’s exactly the mission,” Iskander told the Heartlander and other media members in a news conference after accepting the award. “That’s the whole point of faith-based media – to lead people back to Christ and back to reading the Bible.”

Iskander acknowledged that House of David “takes creative liberties” but added that it is “never the twisting of the essence of the character.” The most familiar moments from David’s life remain largely as recorded in Scripture.

“Praise God that they’re reading their Bibles – I think we’re doing something right. And it’s really not just me. There’s 600 people who work on this production, and every single person puts in their 110 percent.”

Meanwhile, Iskander said portraying David has strengthened his own walk with God.

“I have grown tremendously in my faith,” he added. “… It’s been a blessing for me, and just to look at Scripture, and look at God’s intention, and how He worked through so many faulty people to accomplish His will – and He still is.”
