“We have some good news,” St. George, Utah Police Officer Tiffany Mitchell announced in a Facebook live broadcast, calling off a shelter in place directive during a manhunt after the police were called. “We have the suspect in custody. Everyone is safe. No one else was injured.”
Mia Bailey, 28, previously known as Collin Troy Bailey, was arrested Wednesday and charged with 11 felony counts in the killing of his parents, Joseph and Gail Bailey, and with the attempted murder of his brother.
Bailey showed no remorse over the heinous acts, saying, “I would do it again. I hate them,” according to a police affidavit reviewed by KSL. “Mia told officers that she went to the residence with the intent to kill her parents.”
Bailey allegedly broke into his parents’ home Tuesday night, June 18, shooting his father three times and his mother four times.
A neighbor’s security camera reportedly captured Bailey arriving and leaving the home during the suspected time of killing.
The suspect gave detectives gruesome details about what happened, including how he shot both his parents multiple times before shooting each one final time.
“Mia described that she returned to her father who was lying on the ground and shot him one more time in the head to make sure that he was dead,” the affidavit stated. “While doing that, Mia … walked back over to her mother and shot her in the head to make sure that she was dead.”
After killing his parents, Bailey fired a shot into the bedroom door where his brother and his wife were hiding, according to the police affidavit. Both survived and called police, sparking the manhunt.
The next day, police found and arrested Bailey about seven miles away. Footage captured by KSL shows the suspect willingly dropping his firearm and surrendering to about a dozen armed officers.
According to Fox News, Bailey filed legally changed his name and gender last year.
