A Texas judge has ruled against the Biden-Harris administration’s amnesty plan for illegal immigrants, handing conservatives a major legal victory.
The ruling was filed Thursday in the U.S. District Court for Eastern Texas. It declared the U.S. Department of Homeland Security lacked “statutory authority” to enact the Biden-Harris administration’s policy, which would have enabled over 1 million illegal migrants to obtain citizenship.
America First Legal (AFL), which participated in the lawsuit, celebrated the ruling.
“Since day one, the Biden-Harris Administration has dedicated itself to the decimation of our immigration system and the erasure of our borders,” wrote Gene Hamilton, executive director of AFL, in a press release. “Time and again, the States stood up. And today, the great State of Texas and the courageous Ken Paxton, alongside a coalition of other brave Attorneys General, succeeded in stopping an illegal program that would have provided amnesty to hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens and paved the path for the largest administrative amnesty in American history.”
The lawsuit was led by the states of Texas and Idaho, as well as the attorneys general of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, North Dakota, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee and Wyoming.
In addition to the devastating crimes committed by illegal migrants, the Biden-Harris border policy has burdened Americans in other ways.
A report from March showed illegal immigration put immense strain on the public education system, costing taxpayers billions.
And fifteen states sued the Biden-Harris administration to prevent illegal aliens from taking advantage of taxpayer-funded healthcare.
In contrast, President-elect Donald Trump received the endorsement of the U.S. Border Patrol.
Since his election last week, Trump has reaffirmed the importance of securing the border and promised the mass deportation of illegal immigrants, no matter the cost.
“When people have killed and murdered, when drug lords have destroyed countries – and now they’re going to go back to those countries because they’re not staying here – there is no price tag,” Trump told NBC News on Thursday.
Illegal immigration may already be slowing: A caravan of migrants heading toward the border reportedly decreased by nearly half following Trump’s election, and Mexican officials report dozens of migrants asking for help returning to their home cities instead of proceeding to the border.
