Kentucky middle school teacher arrested on rape, child porn charges

A former Kentucky middle school teacher has been arrested on several charges, including third-degree rape and possession of child pornography.

Brian W. Bailey, 54, was working as a middle school teacher at Whitesburg Middle School when the alleged rapes involving a female student under 16-years-old occurred, according to The Mountain Eagle. 

According to the police report, the “inappropriate contact and communication with the juvenile female date back to November 2023, when the investigations began.”  

“On Friday, February 9, 2024, an indictment warrant was issued in reference to an ongoing investigation being conducted by Detectives with Kentucky State Police, Post 13, Hazard,” read a statement from Kentucky State Police. 

Bailey was arrested and charged with three counts of possession or viewing matter portraying sexual performance of a minor, rape in the third degree and tampering with physical evidence.  

Letcher County Superintendent Denise Yonts confirmed Bailey worked for the school district for a year to 18 months but left on Nov. 2.  

Yont refused to comment on further details involving the ongoing investigation, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader.  

Bailey is being held on a $250,000 bond at the Letcher County Jail.
