For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. — Galatians 5:1 ESV
The book of Galatians is an interesting theological study. Among the topics addressed by the author includes the contrast between slavery and freedom. As an American, I watched with great interest the patriotism of the citizens of Ukraine. But it brought to my mind how precious freedom is. But the more you think about it, just how free is any human being? We are all subject to some form of taxation, gravity, need for food, oxygen, consequences for actions, even physical death. Every human being, anywhere on the planet, is held captive to certain truths and laws from which we cannot free ourselves.
Contrast that with our God. Only God is truly free. God is not subject to taxes, gravity, need for food, oxygen, consequences for actions, or physical death, which makes the incarnation of Jesus Christ even more thought-provoking. God was not required to limit Himself to the constraints of humanity; He CHOSE to BECAUSE HE LOVES YOU!
So today, as we pray for those struggling worldwide, don’t take for granted the spiritual freedom that Jesus bought for you. For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.
