The United States is about a week away from massive flight delays and possible cancellations if the government shutdown continues, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy warned Tuesday.

“Many of the (air traffic) controllers said, ‘A lot of us can navigate missing one paycheck, (but) none of us can manage missing two paychecks,’” Duffy said during remarks in Philadelphia.

“So if you bring us to a week from today, Democrats, you will see mass chaos, mass flight delays; you’ll see mass cancellations, and you may see us close certain parts of the airspace because we just cannot manage it because we don’t have the air traffic controllers.”

The government shutdown is now in its second month and is tied for the longest in U.S. history, as Democrats continue to resist Republican calls to reopen the government.
