Less than an hour after Charlie Kirk was shot – and while he was still fighting for his life – a leftwing MSNBC commentator inferred he deserved it because of his “hateful” rhetoric.
“[H]e’s been one of the most divisive, especially divisive younger figures in this, who is constantly sort of pushing this sort of hate speech or sort of aimed at certain groups,” Matthew Dowd said on Katy Tur Reports.
“And I think that’s the environment we’re in. People just, you can’t stop with these sort of awful thoughts you have and then saying these awful words and not expect awful actions to take place,” he continued.
Dowd also characterized Kirk’s fans as out-of-control gun enthusiasts, saying, “we don’t know if this was a supporter shooting their gun off in celebration,” a comment which initiated a firestorm of reaction online.
Kirk, 31, died within hours of being shot in the neck.
