A school board meeting in Nevada got heated Thursday during the approval of members to the school district’s Sex Education Advisory Committee.

During its July meeting, the committee voted in favor of an individual who would “advocate for a more queer-inclusive curriculum for sex education” in the school district.

“I do take issue with Christopher Brace for the counseling position. This person identifies with the pronouns ‘he, him, and his,’ which I find kind of interesting because there’s two genders,” Kimberly Johnston Lindsdey said during the public comment. “With our grades the way they are, why would we confuse children with things like ‘ze, zir, zem’ pronouns?

“Also if you go to this person’s website, prismlgbtqcounseling.com, this individual states that their top priority is to make an emotionally safe space with counseling. To do so, they use a sex positive, kink friendly, non-judgmental approach. These are our children; I feel like this is grooming.”

Brace’s website reveals that he does “LGBTQ+ affirmative” counseling and provides letters for gender-affirming surgery. He does not have children in the school district, according to his application

Another mother, Lorena Cardenas, expressed her concerns about Brace and a retiring member of SEAC, Laura Deitsch. Deitsch is a “sexologist” who previously worked for Planned Parenthood, and parents have said she sells sex toys.

“I see we’re going down the same radical approach to sexual education. Sex ed committee meetings aren’t new to us; we attended them,” Cardenas said.  “We saw when you had approved the sexologist, who parents later discovered was selling sex toys on YouTube and you seem to be doing the same, trying to appoint someone that is not what parents feel comfortable with.”

Cardenas also said there are parents who are “alarmed and are disgusted that” Brace would be “a good or the best choice to counsel our children for sexual health.”

One SEAC member had previously criticized applicants who were affiliated with the conservative parental rights group, Power2Parent.

Just as the board members voted, a woman wearing a Moms for Liberty shirt can be heard yelling, “Transing kids is wrong. You’re sexualizing children.”

“Shame on you. Shame on all of you. At what point do you let parents speak?” she asked. “And one day these kids are gonna grow up, and they’re gonna sue you.”

She and another man were escorted out of the room.

“You don’t know what you’re doing,” the man yelled as he left.

After the meeting, one of the board members took to Twitter and called Moms for Liberty “cancer.”

The Clark County school board voted 6-1 to approve the new SEAC member.
