A new children’s book from the activist group Shout Your Abortion is drawing national criticism for promoting abortion to children as young as 5.

The book, titled Abortion Is Everything, is written by the movement’s founder, Amelia Bonow, along with Rachel Kessler and illustrator Emily Nokes.

The group announced the book on its social media pages. The posts describe abortion as a “superpower” and say the book is meant for children ages 5 to 8, LifeSiteNews reports

One post says the authors created the book for “parents, caregivers, and educators who work with children” who have been looking for a resource to talk about abortion. Another post says the book explains “what abortion is, how it might feel, and why people have abortions.”

The announcement frames abortion as something allowing people to “shape our destinies” and claims it reflects “our capacity to imagine the future and make choices that lead us towards the life we envision.”

Critics say the messaging avoids the reality that abortion ends a developing human life and instead presents the practice as a form of self-expression. Bonow has a history of targeting young audiences with pro-abortion messaging, including a 2019 “Kids Meet” video where she discussed her own abortion with children.

The group’s social media pages praised the release as a chance to rewrite “our cultural scripts about abortion at the most foundational level.”

The book follows years of abortion advocates pushing messaging toward children. Bonow has said in past videos that abortion “sucked the pregnancy out,” a phrase critics say dehumanizes the unborn child.

When one child in the video suggested abortion could be wrong, Bonow dismissed the concern and asked, “Do we want people to just have all those babies?” She also rejected adoption as an option.

The book arrives as many liberal institutions continue to roll out content suggesting abortion is a normal part of life for children to learn about. At the same time, liberal lawmakers often condemn age-appropriate educational materials such as “Meet Baby Olivia,” a short video that shows prenatal development without mentioning abortion at all.

Pro-life groups, including National Right to Life, say Abortion Is Everything’s release is part of a longstanding effort to normalize abortion through children’s media. They argue presenting abortion as an empowering “superpower” ignores the moral weight of ending a human life.
