A New York elementary school teacher was forced to resign for refusing to allow a biologically male transgender student to use the girls’ restroom.

The Elmira Heights gym teacher, who students referred to as Mr. C., was forced into early retirement last month for allegedly violating a state law allowing students to use the bathroom that corresponds with their gender identity.

“My daughter was being missed gender [sic] not allowed to use the girls bathroom,” the transgender student’s parent said on a social media post, a screenshot of which was shared online. “I filed complaints and took the proper steps to ensure my child got equal and fair treatments in school.”

A third-party account of the incident claimed the transgender student, who is only 7, has been identifying as a girl “for quite a long time.” When Mr. C. refused to allow him into the girls’ restroom, he allegedly had a panic attack and threw up.

Libs of TikTok also posted a video of the Elmira Heights school board meeting on Feb. 28 where citizens were divided over the issue.

“It comes down to the fact that women should be safe in women’s restrooms, men should be safe in men’s restrooms,” one man said, drawing a round of applause.

“Public schools should not be promoting publicized views of sexual orientation and gender identity to their students,” said another.

But others thought the school was right to fire Mr. C. and expressed outrage that a transgender student was denied access to the girls’ bathroom.

“This is disgusting and heinous,” said a community member. “You as teachers and as staff have a responsibility to make this school and this district a safe place for this student, and by allowing such actions to take place, you have failed.”

According to local media, the school district will not confirm or deny any details about the situation.

Meanwhile, a former student of Mr. C. started a GoFundMe to support his “retirement.”
