New York University (NYU) hosted a workshop series open to white public school parents, while barring parents of other races from participation in violation of civil rights laws, say critics.

The six-month-long workshop was “designed specifically for white public school parents in New York City committed to becoming anti-racist and to collaboratively building equitable, powerful, multiracial parents communities in their schools,” and began in February, a listing states, according to the New York Post.

Black Enterprise said that while the course description never specifically forbade other races from attending the event, prior to the workshop, event organizers handed out fliers of why only white people should attend.

“It’s helpful to have a space where other white people engaged in this process can support and challenge us, without having to always subject people of color to further undue trauma or pain as we stumble and make mistakes,” said a flier about the event obtained by the Daily Wire. “A white space serves as a resource to people of color who want to work with white people but don’t want to have to spend all their energy dealing with the racism of white people.”

The series was hosted by NYU’s Education Justice Research and Organizing Collaborative, yet the university told the Washington Free Beacon that it will review the program retroactively to see if it conformed with the university’s standards.

NYU’s Steinhardt School of Education Justice Research Group Associate Director Barbara Gross defended excluding non-whites from the workshop.

“People of color are dealing with racism all the time,” Gross said, according to the Washington Free Beacon. “Like every minute of every day. It’s a harm on top of a harm for them to hear our racist thoughts.”

Gross apparently is white.

“It’s quintessentially illegal,” the director of constitutional studies at the Manhattan Institute, Ilya Shapiro, told the Free Beacon about the workshop. “This episode illustrates the horseshoe theory whereby left- and right-wing radicals end up agreeing on race-based societal balkanization. It’s like that social media meme: ‘Woke or KKK?’”

Shapiro is talking about social media memes that make fun of progressive insistence on racial segregation, just as the Ku Klux Klan did prior to the civil rights movement.

Attorney Samantha Harris, who defends anyone who’s being attacked by the woke mob, told the Free Beacon that she finds it hard to believe that so-called intelligent university intellectuals couldn’t see the irony in what they were doing.

“They are literally running a ‘whites only’ program in the interest of so-called social justice,” Harris said. “I find it inconceivable that the people putting these programs together don’t see the irony.”
