The once Democrat-heavy platform Twitter, now X, has become majority-Republican leaning, a new report shows.
Regular news consumers on X now favor Republicans by 51%, according to Pew Research, a monumental swing from 2021 when Democrats were ahead by 37 points, says CNN’s Harry Enten.
“We’re talking about a 51-point shift in the margin,” Enten said. “This is polling reflecting what you’re seeing in the social media real world where all of a sudden you just see a lot more Republicans in your feed.”
Billionaire Elon Musk purchased Twitter in 2022, changing its name and making a strong commitment to free speech. The platform re-welcomed Donald Trump, who had been banned in the run-up to the 2020 election.
