After public education’s trip down the rabbit hole of wokeness and leftist ideology, parent advocates have hope President Trump will turn things around.
Parents Defending Education (PDE) compiled a list of the 13 worst public school districts in America, detailing the ways each succumbed to wokeism or radical ideology.
The list includes districts in largely blue cities, states or counties:
- Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia
- Loudoun County Public Schools in Virginia
- Los Angeles Unified School District in California
- San Francisco Unified School District in California
- Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland
- Newton Public Schools in Massachusetts
- Chicago Public Schools in Illinois
- New York City Public Schools in New York
- Eau Claire Area School District in Wisconsin
- Austin Independent School District in Texas
- Denver Public Schools in Colorado
- Portland Public Schools in Oregon
- And Seattle Public Schools in Washington
Common themes among the districts have been pro-Hamas and antisemitic sentiments; an excessive focus on racial equity or LGBTQ issues; the promotion of DEI and CRT; and supporting the controversial Black Lives Matter organization.
For example, Loudoun schools spent $420,000 on CRT consultations. One teacher even quit after equity training she was exposed to had maintained that “white, Christian, able-bodied females currently have the power in our schools and ‘this has to change’.”
In Portland, students played ideologically charged games such as “Privilege for Sale” and learned about the “Pyramid of White Supremacy,” which starts with indifference and leads to genocide.
The Portland district also required educators to take students’ “trauma, race, gender identity/presentation, sexual orientation [and] disability” into account when disciplining them.
San Francisco told its staff that perfectionism, a sense of urgency, individualism and objectivity were all hallmarks of white supremacy.
Additionally, Fairfax County, home of a top STEM high school, got in hot water for selling school curriculum and plans to the Chinese Communist Party for $3.6 million.
A Pre-K teacher in New York City called Israel a “fascist ethnostate” and made guides “on how to talk to 4-year-olds about ‘land theft, displacement and ethnic cleansing.’”
Los Angeles partnered with Planned Parenthood to provide students with contraceptives and abortions.
Eau Claire had a disturbing anti-parent agenda, especially when it came to LGBT students. One educator displayed a poster that read, “If your parents aren’t accepting of your identity, I’m your mom now.”
It also equated being unaccepting with abuse.
And in Seattle, a student was infamously failed on a quiz for saying the statement “only women can get pregnant” was true.
“These school districts have a choice,” argues Nicole Neily, president and founder of PDE, “restore education themselves OR wait for the Trump administration to do it for them.”
Trump has already signed executive orders prohibiting schools from receiving federal money if they promote CRT or gender ideology.
His administration has also taken steps to get rid of DEI policies across the board.
