Lancaster Country Day School (LCDS) canceled classes Monday after AI-generated nude images of over 50 female students were leaked.
Both Head of School Matt Micciche and board president Angela Ang-Alhadeff have resigned due to the scandal.
In a public statement, the private school called the images “disturbing” and said it “remains focused on supporting the members of our community who have been impacted.”
Parents were outraged that LCDS leadership didn’t call the police or Child Protective Services when the images were first released last fall or again this May.
Families have since filed a lawsuit on behalf of 50 girls whose images were used by a male student to create pornographic photos.
“Angela and Matt not only failed on their legal obligation to inform the police as soon as they became aware of the crimes, they failed on their moral obligation to protect the children entrusted in their care,” parents said in a statement after the resignations were announced.
According to local media, the plaintiffs’ attorney said the resignations were “a crucial first step in starting the healing process.”
School will resume Tuesday, Nov. 19.
AP reports a new Pennsylvania state law will take effect late next month that explicitly criminalizes making or disseminating AI-generated child sexual abuse material.
