A Planned Parenthood affiliate recently announced plans to shutter eight clinics in two states, leading pro-life advocates to celebrate online.

“Great start! We must keep going until Planned Genocide is out of business,” wrote one X user.

Someone else posted, “It’s a good start and shows promising momentum.  Let’s keep it going!”

Another suggested clinics could become “open adoption centers where young moms can get assistance and help.”

The closures involve clinics in Ames, Cedar Rapids, Sioux City and Urbandale in Iowa, and Alexandria, Apple Valley, Bemidji and Richfield in Minnesota.

The organization will lay off 66 employees and relocate 37 others to different clinics.

Once those clinics close, Planned Parenthood North Central States (PPNCS) will operate 15 clinics, including six that provide abortions.

Five of those six are in Minnesota, Alpha News reports. The closures won’t impact the two Planned Parenthood clinics in Nebraska or the one in South Dakota, also operated by PPNCS.

It comes as President Donald Trump’s administration froze $2.8 million in federal family planning funding to Minnesota in April, Minnesota Public Radio reports.

One official from the abortion giant blamed politics for the closures.

“We have been fighting to hold together an unsustainable infrastructure as the landscape shifts around us and an onslaught of attacks continues,” said Planned Parenthood North Central States (PPNCS) president and CEO Ruth Richardson in a statement. “We know that many of our patients would have nowhere to turn if every Planned Parenthood health center were to disappear from their state.”

Minnesota has seen an uptick in women seeking abortions as an Iowa heartbeat bill took effect last year, banning abortion after six weeks. Additionally, Minnesota borders North Dakota and South Dakota, two states without abortion clinics. Abortion is also banned in South Dakota.
