Pregnancy Resource Centers get some legal support after facing pro-abortion attacks and liberal politicians

In the eight months since the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision draft was leaked, at least 78 Pro-Life Pregnancy Resource Centers (PRCs) were attacked by pro-abortion terrorists.

The onslaught includes firebombings, vandalism, graffiti, constant harassment, protests and other threats of violence.

These centers offer women a broad range of medical services, from free pregnancy testing and counseling to educational parenting programs and material assistance.

While the FBI said it is actively investigating the violence, no arrests have been made. The militant left-wing group Jane’s Revenge even publicly claimed responsibility for at least 18 of the attacks.

At the same time, PRCs are being targeted by Democratic politicians at state and federal levels, including by U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren and President Joe Biden.

Warren, along with Sen. Bob Menendez, Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney and Rep. Suzanne Bonamici, introduced legislation in June to “crack down” on PRCs for “false advertising that crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs) employ to dissuade patients from getting the reproductive care they need, including abortion care.”

The bill “directs the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to issue rules to prohibit deceptive or misleading advertising related to the provision of abortion services. The bill also authorizes the FTC to enforce these rules and collect penalties from organizations in violation.”

Likewise, Biden issued an executive order in July that similarly targets PRCs:

“The Secretary of Health and Human Services shall, in consultation with the Attorney General and the Chair of the FTC, consider options to address deceptive or fraudulent practices related to reproductive healthcare services, including online, and to protect access to accurate information.”

Despite the resistance, PRCs are getting legal help from the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ).

“We have defended PRCs for decades and understand that this is the exact language that is always used to come after them,” CeCe Heil, senior counsel for the ACLJ, wrote in response to Biden’s executive order.

“Meanwhile, these pro-life pregnancy centers are being firebombed and vandalized across the nation without any condemnation whatsoever from President Biden. Centers that provide compassionate, comprehensive, and completely free services and support to pregnant women are the enemy of the abortion industry. Why?

“Because an overwhelming majority of pregnant women choose to keep their baby once they see an ultrasound and come face to face with the precious life inside them.”

The ACLJ has been in contact with PRCs in at least 10 states, offering legal support. In New York, Pennsylvania and Vermont, the group is helping PRCs push back against state laws that may prevent them from sharing their pro-life message. In Iowa, it is representing a PRC that has been subjected to months of “harassing and obnoxious tactics” by pro-abortion protestors.

“The ACLJ is here to support and fight for the groups and organizations that provide the practical and day-to-day support that women need to choose life. And we will never stop our work,” writes Olivia Summers, senior litigation counsel for the ACLJ.
