Presidential candidate Tim Scott released his “Empower Parents Plan” for improving education on Monday, covering a variety of hot-button topics and reversing several of President Biden’s major policies.
Among the proposals:
- “Save Title IX and women’s sports,” the plan reads. “If God made you a man, you play sports against other men.”
Ever since Biden reinterpreted “sex-based discrimination” to include sexual orientation and gender identity, schools have struggled to protect vulnerable girls and same-sex bathrooms and sports teams.
Several states have taken legislative action against biological men using women’s spaces, but Scott believes a federal reset is necessary.
- “Stand with crisis pregnancy centers and stop the [Department of Justice] from turning a blind eye to far-left threats and vandalism.”
In the aftermath of Roe v. Wade’s reversal, federal agencies have targeted pro-life centers and advocates for allegedly violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act.
“Biden and his administration are openly enforcing the FACE Act against pro-life protesters while they watch pregnancy centers burn to the ground and their patients assaulted by abortion advocates,” wrote one commentator. “To the left, Lady Justice is no longer blind.”
- “Empower every family [with] the right to opt out of propaganda that attacks their values and religion liberty.”
Gender and sexuality are being introduced into the earliest of classrooms at unprecedented rates. In Maryland, parents of various faiths – including Islam, Judaism, Latter-Day Saints and Ethiopian Orthodoxy – have even been forced to go to court to affirm their parental rights.
“These books are in fact teaching explicit sexual orientation and gender identity issues as early as pre-K,” said Will Haun, senior counsel at Becket Law, which is representing the parents in their lawsuit. “[The instructions] require teachers to make dismissive statements about a student’s religious beliefs, to shame children who disagree, and to teach as facts things that some would not agree are facts.”
- “Break the back of the teachers’ union and enact nationwide school choice.”
Teachers’ unions are powerful lobbyists, and the school closures that unions helped force on families did catastrophic damage to students. Corey DeAngelis, a prominent school choice advocate, equates the national teachers’ unions to a money-laundering scheme.
- “End the attacks on excellence by rejecting the false notions of ‘equity’ and the Left’s attacks on honors classes.”
In Virginia, 17 schools admitted to withholding National Merit awards for the sake of equity. Many of the students not informed of their achievement were Asian. Gov. Glenn Younkin squarely condemned the schools’ actions and the “maniacal focus on equal outcomes.”
In California, one district even cut honors classes all together in the name of racial equity.
Scott’s Empower Parents Plan also addresses “Big Tech” privacy and predator concerns. The senator proposes requiring every app to display its country of origin so parents can be fully informed.
“Teachers’ unions, Big Tech, and Joe Biden are on a mission to make parents less important,” Scott said in a press release. “I have a bold agenda to support and empower parents – from the classroom to the locker room to the smartphone.”
