Taylor Swift made a surprise visit to a children’s hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, one day before her birthday last week.
Swift visited Children’s Mercy Hospital on Thursday in an event where children and parents had no idea she was coming, according to KMBC.
One parent named Cassie Thomas told the Associated Press the only prior warning she got to Swift’s visit was that she may want to brush her hair and teeth in anticipation of a special visitor.
Swift had just wrapped up her Eras Tour in Vancouver, Canada, a few days earlier.
The pop star, who turned 35 last week, visited several children’s rooms at the hospital, including that of Thomas’ 13-year-old son, Beckett, a cancer patient and a Kansas City Chiefs fan.
The teen likes star tight end Travis Kelce, who Swift is dating, and makes earrings featuring Kelce’s name and Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Beckett gave Swift a pair of earrings.
“She was amazing,” Thomas said. “So down to earth.”
Meanwhile, another child patient told the pop star that her favorite song is “Love Story,” and she enjoys the song “Paper Rings.”
The girl also spoke to Swift about San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy.
“Brock Purdy, what? I mean, I don’t mind Brock Purdy.” Swift said, according to The Associated Press. “He put me through a lot last February.”
Swift was referencing the tight game the Chiefs played against the 49ers in the Super Bowl in February 2024. The Chiefs ultimately beat the 49ers 25-22 in overtime on a game-winning field goal from kicker Harrison Butker; it was just the second Super Bowl ever to go into overtime.
“I was very stressed for a second, but it all ended up fine,” Swift told the girl.
The girl then admitted to Swift, “I like Travis now,” to which the star responded, “Me too. That’s an absolute yes on that one.”
Swift then asked the girl if Kelce was her favorite player.
“Yes, he and Patrick [Mahomes],” she said.
“Good answer,” Swift responded. “You are acing this.”
Swift also met with several other children who are fans at the hospital. She signed copies of her official Eras Tour book for them and posed for pictures with them.
