A Texas teacher’s aide was arrested twice in December for sexual misconduct with a minor.
Roosevelt Alexander Sr., a 46-year-old teacher’s aide for the Waco Independent School District in Texas, was arrested for the second time on New Year’s Eve and charged with criminal solicitation of a minor.
According to court records, the latest arrest came as a result of the investigation into the first case against him.
In the first case, police were called to the G. L. Wiley Opportunity Center (WOC) on Dec. 13 when a 16-year-old female student told a staff member he showed her an explicit video of himself. WOC is an alternative school for students with behavioral issues.
The court affidavit says the victim told staff he repeatedly called her over to him during in-school suspension because he wanted to show her a video. When she finally relented, she says he showed her a video of his naked genitalia, at which point she walked away saying, “Oh my gosh! I should punch you in the face.” To which he allegedly replied, “I told you it wasn’t a Tik Tok.”
That alleged interaction between Alexander and the victim was reportedly captured on the school’s security system.
Police arrested Alexander Dec. 16 and charged him with displaying harmful material to a minor. Records indicate he was released the next day on a $2,000 bond.
While police were investigating that first incident, they became aware of another alleged victim when the 16-year-old female told them about another student who had “warned her” about Alexander. That student, a 15-year-old female at WOC, allegedly told her he was “weird” and that he’d offered money to see pictures of “her stuff.”
On Dec. 19 the 15-year-old victim told investigators that in January Alexander had said he’d pay her $100 for pictures or video of her private parts. She told them he made her feel uncomfortable and she tried to avoid him after that.
On New Year’s Eve Waco police acquired a warrant to arrest Alexander in that case for criminal solicitation of a minor. He was reportedly released on a $5,000 bond in that case on New Year’s Day.
As of Thursday Alexander was still listed as a teacher’s aide on the school’s website.
“Waco ISD is deeply committed to the safety, well-being, and education of every student in our care,” the school district said in a statement. “On Thursday, December 12, campus administration was made aware of allegations involving an in-school suspension aide at G. L. Wiley Opportunity Center. The individual was placed on leave and appropriate authorities were contacted. Following a criminal investigation by the Waco ISD Police Department, the individual was taken into custody on Monday, December 16.
“The safety of our students is and will always remain our top priority. We expect our employees to foster an environment where our students feel safe, supported, and valued. We want to reassure families that we are taking this matter seriously and thank them for trusting Waco ISD with the education of their students.”
