(Daily Caller News Foundation) – Time magazine named President-elect Donald Trump as its “Person of the Year.”
Trump is scheduled to ring the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday morning, Politico first reported, the first president to do have done so since Ronald Reagan. He was selected by Time over finalists including Vice President Kamala Harris, billionaire Elon Musk, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales.
This marks the president-elect’s second time receiving the honor. He was previously named “Person of the Year” following his 2016 election victory. Thirteen U.S. presidents have received the title, including President Joe Biden.
Trump’s 2024 was marked by legal trials and political triumphs. He survived a gunshot to the ear, navigated criminal prosecutions and campaigned against the incumbent president and later the vice president for the White House.
The 78-year-old president-elect conducted multiple campaign events daily for several weeks leading up to the Nov. 5 election. He focused on issues including the economy, immigration and foreign policy.
Trump won the Electoral College and all seven battleground states. The Republican Party also secured majorities in the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate.
In his acceptance speech, Trump, who will serve as the 45th and 47th president, pledged to “make America safe, strong, prosperous, powerful and free again.”
He has since announced numerous Cabinet nominees from his Mar-a-Lago residence and begun foreign policy negotiations with world leaders.
Time magazine has also named additional honorees, including WNBA star Caitlin Clark as “Athlete of the Year”, Advanced Motor Devices CEO Lisa Su as “CEO of the Year” and Elton John as “Icon of the Year.”
