Toronto’s All-Star first baseman may be on a remarkable World Series run, but he says the real source of his strength isn’t his swing – it’s his faith in Christ.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has been key to Toronto’s march to the World Series, leading the club this postseason with six home runs, 12 RBIs and an eye-popping .414 batting average as the Blue Jays reached their first Fall Classic since 1993 – the year they last won it all.

Toronto plays the Los Angeles Dodgers Tuesday night in Game 4, trailing in the series 2-1.

Moments after Toronto clinched the American League Championship Series, the five-time All-Star told Fox’s broadcast team that faith has been his fuel.

“When you believe in God … you gotta give the glory to God,” he said during a nationally televised interview.

A fixture in Toronto’s lineup since his MLB debut in 2019, Guerrero has grown from a promising prospect into one of baseball’s most feared hitters, finishing 12th in the majors this year in hitting (.292) and sixth in on-base percentage (.381).

Prayer has given him peace. With the season on the line in Game 7 of the ALCS and his team trailing Seattle 3-1, Guerrero said he went into the clubhouse to pray and refocus, trusting God with whatever came next. The Blue Jays rallied for a 4-3 victory on the strength of George Springer’s three-run homer in the seventh.

“I went to my knee, and I said to God: ‘If it’s something for us, I’m gonna give You the glory. If not, I’m gonna give You the glory, no matter what.’ … That inning George came in and hit a home run.”

The 26-year-old Guerrero, who was born in Montreal but grew up in the Dominican Republic, says faith and family are the foundation of his life. His father, Vladimir Guerrero Sr., is a Hall of Famer who starred for the Montreal Expos and three other teams while earning nine All-Star selections.

“We believe in God,” he said. “And for us, God is great. God is important in my life.”

Guerrero often discusses his faith during interviews.

“For me, Jesus Christ is everything,” he told CBN Sports last year. “I read the Bible before every game, when I wake up. I pray and read the Bible before bed.”

The 2025 World Series run has marked a stunning turnaround for the Blue Jays, who finished last in their division in 2024 and were considered long-shots for the World Series heading into 2025.
