A biological male is favored to win the girls’ track and field state championship in New Hampshire this weekend.

Maelle Jacques, a sophomore at Kearsarge Regional High School in North Sutton, is ranked first in girls’ Division 2 high jump, according to the state’s Track and Field Results Reporting System.

Jacques was undefeated this season in the high jump, placing first in all four regular-season meets. In addition, Jacques is the only competitor in the girls’ division to clear over 5 feet during the indoor season, with a top jump of 5 feet ½ inch.

Had Jacques competed in the boys’ division his best jump would have placed him near the bottom, 19 out of 24.

Riley Gaines, former collegiate athlete and women’s sports advocate, called out parents on X for failing to advocate for their daughters: “How could the parents of this boy allow their son to cheat deserving women out of opportunities? And why don’t the parents of the girls stand up and say “no” for their daughters?

“This country is full of failing, gutless mothers and fathers.”

In 2023, Jacques placed second in the girls’ 1600-meter run and fifth in girls’ high jump at the Athletics Division 3 Championship meet during the outdoor track season.

This weekend’s championship is scheduled to take place at Plymouth State University.
