President Donald Trump will invite the Philadelphia Eagles to the White House, and they’re expected to accept the invitation.

Trump announced he will invite the Super Bowl 59 champions to the White House later this year after rescinding an invitation to the team in 2018.

“They will be,” Trump told reporters on Monday. “We haven’t yet, but we will be. I thought it was a great performance by them. Absolutely, they’ll be extended an invitation. We’ll do it right away. We’ll do it sometime today. They deserve to be down here, and we hope to see them.”

Trump then asked a staffer to start preparing the invite immediately.

The question came about after a British tabloid, the Sun, reported the team would not accept a White House invitation from Trump.

“We represent a city and a state that is pushing for equal rights, respect, and values that respect every human being,” the publication claims an anonymous Eagles player told it. “We won’t forget what happened and the criticism we received for taking a stand against racism, and we won’t back down from our values of respect, integrity, and equality.”

NFL insiders say the Sun’s report is fake news.

ESPN’s lead NFL reporter, Adam Schefter, reiterated this on X.

“To those wondering: Eagles sources say the team is planning on visiting the White House this off-season and looks forward to receiving its invitation,” he posted

NFL Network’s lead NFL reporter, Ian Rapoport, also reported it.

“The #Eagles would be honored to visit The White House, team sources say,” he posted on X. “It’s one of the aspects of winning they are excited about and look forward to receiving the invitation.”

Trump rescinded the Eagles White House invitation in 2018 after many players announced they planned to skip it.

That came at a time when Trump and the NFL had a fraught relationship. The president strongly disagreed with NFL players kneeling during the National Anthem. Trump called for NFL owners to fire all of the players who kneeled in September 2017, prompting more players to do it.

However, given the short careers of NFL players, the Eagles have almost none of the same players they did six years ago. Plus, no NFL players kneel during the anthem anymore.

During the 2024 NFL season, various NFL players danced like Trump after scoring touchdowns.

The Eagles beat the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl 59.
