What began as a major back injury confining singer Forrest Frank to bed has unexpectedly turned into a moment of creative inspiration, leading him to record two songs during his recovery and sparking an outpouring of support from the Christian community.

The award-winning artist who is best known for his hit song Your Way’s Better was skateboarding in front of his house mid-July when he fell and fractured the L3 and L4 vertebrae, two key bones in the lower spine that support the body’s weight and facilitate movement.

“Thankful to God that it wasn’t any worse,” he wrote on Instagram, adding that he “will be laying in bed for a while.”

Soon, though, Frank began recording music from his bed to testify of God’s goodness – first with the track God’s Got My Back – “low-hanging fruit,” he admitted with a smile – then with Lemonade, a yet-to-be-released single he teased on social media that testifies of Jesus’ ability to turn life’s lemons into something special.

God’s Got My Back quickly went viral with more than 600,000 YouTube streams in six days.

Frank has quickly emerged in recent years as one of Christian music’s most recognizable names, thanks in part to a distinct vocal style and infectious beats, which have helped his music go viral on TikTok. The catchy track Your Way’s Better, for example, has been featured in more than 700,000 TikTok clips and even landed on Billboard’s Hot 100 – a mainstream chart.

His concert tours have drawn massive crowds and included multiple sold-out shows.

This week, fellow artist Tauren Wells, another popular CCM artist, led 5,000 fans during a concert at the Ohio State Fair in a heartfelt prayer for Frank.

Wells called Frank a “Daniel in our generation,” a reference to the biblical figure known for his courage and unwavering faith.

“God has put a spotlight on Christian music,” Wells told the crowd. “The enemy has put a target on it. Anything God designs, the enemy seeks to destroy. And I don’t think it’s a coincidence, whether you love these people’s music or not, that an artist like Forest Frank, … will be skateboarding in his driveway and break his back. How many of y’all think that’s a coincidence? No, it’s an attack. And it’s not just an attack on a person, it’s an attack on something that God is doing in the Earth.”

Wells then led the crowd in a powerful prayer, asking God to comfort Frank and bring healing to his body. He later shared the moment on Instagram, tagging Frank in the post. Several other CCM artists also responded in the comments, including CeCe Winans, Jamie MacDonald and Jonathan Traylor.

“Yes God! Heal in Jesus Name,” wrote Winans, a multi-Grammy winner.

Actress Chrissy Metz, an actress best known for her role on This Is Us, but who also has starred in several faith-based films, chimed in: “Amen and Hallelujah!!!”

A visibly emotional Frank later shared a video of himself watching the prayer for the first time.

“This was a wild display of love, leadership, humility, and honor @taurenwells,” he wrote in an accompanying post. “I am overcome with the presence of [the] Holy Spirit. I feel completely undeserving of an act like this, but i receive every bit of it. Thy will be done!!”
