Two public school administrators in different states have been arrested for lewd acts, adding to a spree of such crimes among school employees this year.
The first arrest occurred Nov. 29 after Jamie Lee White, dean of students at Bancroft Elementary School in Northwest Washington, D.C., allegedly exposed himself to two women at a local park around 9:00 a.m.
According to D.C.’s Fox 5, police officers in the area dispatched officers to Buddy Attick Lake Park after a caller from that location reported the indecent exposure. Although the police did not find the perpetrator at the park, the caller was able to give a detailed description of the suspect and his vehicle.
Shortly after, police encountered a vehicle that matched the accuser’s description and initiated a traffic stop. White, the driver, also matched the description, was positively identified, and was arrested.Â
The 45-year-old was charged with indecent exposure and released on his own recognizance.Â
White is set to make a court appearance on Jan. 30, and police are asking anyone who may have had contact with him at the park to call.Â
D.C. Public Schools issued a statement, reported by Fox 5: “While we cannot comment on personnel or personal matters of employees, we can share that this employee is on leave as of November 29.”Â
The day after White’s arrest, an unrelated arrest of another public school official was made in Murray County, Georgia.Â
Dr. Rachelle Terry, Murray County School system’s director of Enrollment, Data Collections, and Federal Programs, was arrested and charged with sex crimes against a minor, reported Fox News. Â
The unraveling began on Nov. 9, when Sheriff Jimmy Davenport received a complaint about minors being provided with alcohol at a Halloween party. The Murray County District Attorney’s Office investigated and charges were filed. Terry turned herself in on Nov. 22 on five counts of furnishing/purchasing of alcoholic beverages for minors and five more for contributing to the delinquency of minors. Â
On November 23rd, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was asked to investigate after the DA’s own investigation revealed the case involved Terry committing sexual acts with a student. Â
“During the course of that investigation, information came to light that we turned over to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations and asked them to follow up on, which led to the additional charges of statutory rape and child molestation,” District Attorney Bert Poston said.Â
Terry, who has been with the school district for 22 years, has been placed on administrative leave with pay.Â
