(Daily Caller) – The vast majority of likely voters said they wouldn’t vote for a candidate who wants to allow minors to undergo gender transition procedures such as puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and surgeries, according to Thursday poll.
Among likely general election voters, 63.3% said they weren’t “likely at all” to vote for a candidate who supports the procedures, along with 9.4% who were somewhat less likely to vote for such a candidate, according to the Trafalgar Group and Convention of States Action poll. The survey comes amid a national reckoning over minors undergoing medical gender transitions, which are legal in most states and widely supported by Democrats.
Democratic respondents were far more likely than Republicans to choose candidates who support cross-sex procedures for minors: 57.3% of Democrats said they were more likely to choose such a candidates compared to 3.5% of Republicans, according to the poll.
“As with so many other election 2022 issues, the far left has gone too far in pushing unrestricted transgender procedures for any child at nearly any age without any restrictions … Average Americans, regardless of party, have a sense that things are out of control and there are no adults in the room,” Mark Meckler, president of the Convention of States, said in a statement shared with the Daily Caller News Foundation. “When the autopsy is done on this coming midterm election, experts will find that unrestricted wokeness has had a major impact on voting decisions. Citizens expect responsible, common-sense policies on issues, and politicians so focused on pandering can’t see this and will pay the price.”
For respondents who didn’t fall into the two main parties, 79.2% were unlikely to vote for candidates who support minors’ gender transitions and 20.7% were likely to support them.
Numerous other polls have found skepticism of transgender medical procedures for minors: 90% of Americans who have an opinion on the subject believe minors should not be allowed to undergo permanent gender alteration procedures, 65% of believe the transgender movement has gone too far in recommending sex change surgeries and drugs to minors and 78.7% think minors should be required to wait until they reach adulthood before they can undergo puberty blockers and permanent sex change procedures.
The poll surveyed 1,080 likely voters from Oct. 25 – 30 with a 2.9% margin of error.
