Venezuela agreed to take back its deported illegal immigrants from the United States this past weekend, including members of the notorious criminal gang Tren de Aragua.

The news comes after Venezuela’s socialist leader Nicolas Maduro met with Trump envoy Rick Grenell. Venezuela also released six American prisoners after the meeting, according to the Miami Herald.

“Venezuela has agreed to receive back into their Country all Venezuela illegal aliens who were encamped in the U.S., including gang members of Tren de Aragua,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Trump added that the once-prosperous socialist nation has agreed “to supply the transportation back.”

The Trump administration is working to ensure that all Latin American countries do the same.

“We are in the process of removing record numbers of illegal aliens from all Countries, and all Countries have agreed to accept these illegal aliens back,” he posted on Truth Social. “Furthermore, record numbers of criminals are being removed from our Country, and the Border numbers are the strongest they have been since the First Term of the Trump Administration!”

However, activist Adelys Ferro, executive director of the Venezuelan-American Caucus, criticized the Trump administration for negotiating with the Maduro regime.

She told the Miami Herald that an agreement between the two countries would have “severe consequences for the path to democracy in Venezuela and for the future of hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans who, unfortunately, will be subject to deportation.”

A broad global consensus exists that Maduro rigged the 2024 Venezuelan presidential election to avoid a landslide defeat, according to the New York Times.

Venezuela was one of many countries that had been less compliant with the United States in accepting deported illegal immigrants, along with Haiti and Cuba, the report said.

The Trump administration has taken a “worst first” approach to deportations, prioritizing the removal of illegal immigrants who commit additional crimes in the United States or those who are wanted for crimes in their home countries, according to Trump Border Czar Tom Homan.
