Despite political controversy over the SAVE Act, the vast majority of Americans support requiring a photo ID to vote.
CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten highlighted polling Tuesday showing broad public support for voter ID laws.
“The American people are with Nicki Minaj,” Enten said, referencing the rapper who has publicly supported President Donald Trump on several issues, including voter ID.
Support for requiring photo identification has risen from 75% in 2018 to 83% today, Enten said. Among Democrats, 71% support voter ID, compared with 95% of Republicans, and support is widespread across racial groups.
“Voter ID is not controversial in this country,” Enten concluded. “The vast majority of Americans agree with Nicki Minaj that, in fact, you should have a photo ID to be able to vote.”
