Ken Griffin, billionaire founder of Citadel and Citadel Securities, said New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s socialist policies have convinced him to build more office space in Miami.
Although he is constructing a giant skyscraper at 350 Park Ave., Griffin said Mamdani’s election convinced him and his New York partners that “we need to double on our bet in Miami.”
“We want to be in a state that embraces business, that embraces education, that embraces personal freedom and liberty, and that embraces people having an opportunity to live the American dream,” he said Tuesday at the Milken Institute Global Conference in Los Angeles, which convenes leaders in government, science, philanthropy and business.
Griffin didn’t say whether he was abandoning the Park Avenue project, which would be the city’s second-tallest building after One World Trade Center when it is scheduled to be completed in 2032.
