Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis unveiled a state budget Wednesday that is less than New York City’s and less than half the size of New York state’s.
Despite Florida having about 3.5 million more people than New York, it will spend just $117 billion on its budget, versus $254 billion for the Empire State.
The situation is even more glaring in New York City, which spends about $120 billion annually serving 8.5 million people.
“I can tell you, the roads aren’t better up there,” said DeSantis, a Republican who is widely expected to run for president in 2028. “We’re really showing you how it can be done.”
